Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce was finalised two months ago, and while we’ve heard from the singer a couple of times, nothing has came from Affleck’s camp.

That is until now, as the 52-year-old has officially broken his silence on what he has described as an ’embarrassing’ split with his former lover – having only been married for two years.

Lopez filed for divorce with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’, back in August – soon after it was heard that Affleck didn’t attend the 55-year-old’s birthday party – which featured a host of celebrities.

Now, sitting down with GQ, The Accountant star was asked about their parting, having initially been asked about a documentary which they both feature in, titled The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

After he was asked about their last conversation he had with her, he replied: “Well, on the one hand there’s the first feeling, which is like, well, I hope I was clear about, when you asked me about Jen and the documentary and I talked about that and my sort of personal life a little bit, which I don’t mind doing as long as my actual feelings and intentions and beliefs are communicated, which I hope I was clear that really this is somebody I have a lot of respect for.

“And I get wanting to divine or explore the kind of differences in perspective that we have in terms of how a person feels comfortable approaching the line between public and private life.

“But I really hope that whatever you use doesn’t suggest that I have any negativity or judgment or anything regarding that. I have nothing but respect.”

He added: “I guess there’s a tendency to look at break-ups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly, like I said, the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

Before later explaining how he felt ’embarrassed’ by the whole ordeal.

“Yeah, there’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue. The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’, well, there is no: ‘This is what happened’.

“It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do. And as you get older, this is true for me, I assume it’s true for most people, there is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event’.

“It’s really, it sounds more like a couple’s therapy session, which—you would tune out of someone else’s couple’s therapy after a while.”

Before adding: “For one thing, you start going, ‘Okay, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues’, and the reason I don’t want to share that, is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”

Jennifer Lopez wasn’t afraid to get candid about the difficulties she faced in her relationship with Ben Affleck in a new interview.

Lopez was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony before tying the knot with Affleck in Las Vegas in July 2022 before going on to have a more lavish affair in Georgia in August.

Exactly two years on from their Georgia nuptials, Lopez filed for divorce after months of speculation that she and Affleck had split.

In the filing, Lopez cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the divorce.

In a new interview with comedian Nikki Glaser, Lopez opted to get into the details of the relationship, explained what she has learned and what she hopes for the future.

Likening the breakdown of her marriage as an exploding and burning house, she said she was now looking inward at how to move forward.

She said: “When your whole house blows up, you’re standing there in the rubble going, ‘How do I not ever let that happen again?’

“And then you start examining it little by little saying, ‘OK, I did this, this was my part in it, this was what I should have seen early on, this is what I didn’t look at.’ Those things are what really are the lessons.”

Speaking on her failures, Lopez candidly added: “You have to be complete, if you want something that’s more complete. You have to be good on your own.

“I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, ‘I need to go off and be on my own.’ I want to prove to myself that I can do that.”

She admitted that doing this was very ‘f***** hard’ and it came with its own difficulties, like loneliness.

However, the music star is optimistic about her future and the growth she intends to have now being single.

She said: “It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me.’

“It’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself.

“Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself.

“I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.’”

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce has been major news in the celebrity world and fans have been loving the singer’s latest post about relationships.

The news broke last year August that Lopez and Affleck were getting a divorce after getting married two years prior.

Lopez listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024, however, both celebrities have kept the details of their relationship relatively close to their chest.

The ‘Let’s Get Loud’ star took to social media this week to make a comment that would delight her fans as it was a slight reference to one of her most popular hits.

She shared an Instagram post that said: “Due to inflation my love will now be costing a thing.”

And in case you aren’t well-versed in your JLo anthems, this in contrast to her song ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing’.

In the 2001 track, JLo sings: “Even if you were broke, my love don’t cost a thing.”

Her fans seemed to agree with the statement and joked alongside the star in the comments.

One person wrote: “Yasssss!!! Gotta know our worth baby.”

Another said: “Period! I’ve been saying this! Lol.”

A third added: “Talk di tingzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!! She not playin’ games wit’ yall!!!”

While seemingly fun and games, there is no indication Lopez was specifically talking about Affleck and their relationship.

Affleck previously insisted that he was grateful for having Lopez in his life and spoke of the good relationship he has with all the children involved in his life, including hers.

In an interview while on the red carpet for his new film The Accountant 2, he said: “Listen, I don’t read the stuff online much, and sometimes I get the sense that people perpetuate this idea of … they wanna find something negative to talk about. For the record, Jennifer Lopez is spectacular, great to my kids, great ongoing relationship with them.”

“I love her kids. They are wonderful,” Affleck added. “She is enormously important, tremendous person of a lot of integrity who I adore and am grateful to.

“I’m thrilled that the kids are here with me.”

The actor noted: “That’s the kind of thing where the relationship that you have with children like that is a joy in my life. Those kids are amazing and I’m glad that this is a movie they want to come to.”⁠

These sweet comments comes after Affleck said he was ‘embarrassed’ about opening up about the issues they were having, simply saying that it ‘feels vulnerable’.

Jennifer Lopez has returned to social media for the first time since announcing her split from Ben Affleck.

Lopez filed for divorce from her husband earlier this week, with official court documents dating the separation to 26 April.

The papers, filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, did not state that a prenup was arranged, which is often common in celebrity divorces.

Both parties will be ordered to disclose their finances, including their current income, expenses, properties, and any debts they owe.

The pair have not spoken publicly since news of the split came to light, but J.Lo has now taken to Instagram to break her silence.

The star reshared a selfie that a fan account had posted, with her glam looking as glittering as ever.

The post wasn’t accompanied by a caption, but fans believe that the original photo was taken at a photoshoot in December 2020.

Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, got married two years ago after almost two decades apart following their first split in 2004.

They chose to have two weddings, in true celeb style, with the first taking place in Las Vegas in July 2022, and the second – much larger one – in Georgia just a month later.

She spoke about how love is patient upon announcing their marriage, after waiting over two whole decades to be wed with Affleck.

In a post, she said: “Love is beautiful. Love is kind.

“And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”

But the split didn’t totally come as a shock to fans, after rumours have been circulating for a while.

Lopez was recently seen on holiday separately to her husband and not wearing her wedding ring.

And whilst most newly-divorced couples couldn’t think of anything worse than coming face-to-face with their former other-half, the ‘Jen and Ben’ reunion could be sooner than we think.

That’s because their joint project – a heartbreaking drama movie titled Unstoppable – is due to land in cinemas very soon.

Presumably, both stars will be attending the premieres of the film, which will make for a very awkward encounter.

Whether or not the couple will appear together on the red carpet, however, is anyone’s guess.

Page Six has reported that J.Lo will make an appearance as one of the main characters, while Ben will choose to stay at home in LA.

But I guess we’ll just have to see…
