Donald Trump has answered whether or not he trusts President Vladimir Putin as he continues to express his frustration with the Russian leader.

Trump and Putin have had a love-hate relationship since the beginning of his first presidential term in 2016.

However, when Trump took over the White House in 2025, things began to change, and tensions have since arisen in the wake of the RussiaUkraine war.

During the 2024 presidential election campaign, he insisted he could end the war between the two countries within his first 24 hours back in the White House. He made calls for a ceasefire and even had many discussions with Putin over the phone, but the war rages on.

Since then, Trump has issued tariffs on Russia, threatening that they’d be ‘very severe’ if a deal with Ukraine were not reached, and said in a cabinet meeting on July 8 that they ‘get a lot of bulls*** thrown at us by Putin’.

Now, he’s opened up about his relationship with Putin, revealing whether or not he trusts him.

Following the meeting with NATO’s Secretary General, Trump spoke to BBC reporter Gary O’Donoghue and shared his confusion about not having yet reached an agreement to end the war.

“We’ll have a great conversation. I’ll say: ‘That’s good, I’ll think we’re close to getting it done,’ and then he’ll knock down a building in Kyiv,” he said. “I said: ‘What the hell was that all about?'”

O’Donoghue then asked Trump if he was ‘finished’ with Putin, to which the president replied: “I’m disappointed in him, but I’m not done with him. But I’m disappointed in him.”

He was asked if the assassination attempt had changed him, and Trump responded: “I don’t like dwelling on it because if I did, it would be, you know, might be life-changing, I don’t want it to have to be that.”

Then, when he was asked if he trusted Putin, he replied: “I trust almost nobody to be honest with you.”

Last week, leaked audio tapes show that the former businessman had previously tried a different tactic as, according to CNN, Trump was speaking to wealthy donors at an event before his second run as president, where he reportedly said: “With Putin I said, ‘If you go into Ukraine, I’m going to bomb the s**t out of Moscow. I’m telling you I have no choice.’

“And then [Putin] goes, like, ‘I don’t believe you.’ But he believed me 10%.”

Russia has since denied claims that such a conversation took place, however.

In a major turnaround, the president has also expressed how he will be helping Ukraine fight off Russian soldiers.

He confirmed on Sunday (July 13) that the US would send air defence systems to Ukraine, stating: “We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need. I haven’t agreed on the number yet, but they’re going to have some because they do need protection.”

Donald Trump reportedly threatened Vladimir Putin with a major attack and Russia has hit back against these claims.

New audio of President Donald Trump speaking to donors in 2024 has caused quite an international stir.

According to a CNN report, Trump was speaking to wealthy donors at an event prior to becoming President for a second term.

He told them how he had previously been very tough on Russian President Vladimir Putin when it came to his invasion of Ukraine.

In the recording, Trump reportedly said: “With Putin I said, ‘If you go into Ukraine, I’m going to bomb the sh*t out of Moscow. I’m telling you I have no choice.

“And then [Putin] goes, like, ‘I don’t believe you.’ But he believed me 10%.”

Trump then allegedly insisted he made similar comments when it comes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, telling him Beijing would be bombed if the nation decided to invade Taiwan.

CNN has claimed the audio tapes were from fundraisers in New York and Florida, which were later obtained by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, who detailed some of the exchanges in their new book, 2024.

However, it is not clear when and in which format these alleged conversations took place with the leaders.

However, Russia has now dismissed these claims as they released a statement addressing this.

The spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said: “The fact is that there were no telephone conversations then.

“After all, we are talking, as far as I understand, about the period when Trump was not yet the president of the United States.”

News of this alleged conversation comes after Trump recently said he was frustrated with the Russian leader.

Trump spoke to the press after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday (July 8) and expressed his anger at Putin over Ukrainian soldiers dying in their thousands.

He said: “I’m not happy with Putin. I can tell you that much right now.

“We get a lot of bulls*** thrown at us by Putin … He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”

Trump also hinted that he was considering another bill that would enact further sanctions on Russia.

As well as this, Trump noted that he has approved for more US weapons to be sent to Ukraine in their fight against Russia.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to this indicating the need for speed in order to protect the nation and the people.

Talks of a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine still persist

As the war rages on in Ukraine, Donald Trump has given his answer on what he was going to do about Russia’s recent attacks.

Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that he plans to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 2014.

However, while the US has been in talks with both Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, peace hasn’t exactly been long lasting.

Only yesterday (April 24) Trump condemned a Russia drone strike that killed 9 people in Kyiv and insisted he was ‘not happy’ with the action.

The attack in question killed at least 9 people and injured more than 70, making it the deadliest assault on the Ukrainian capital since last July.

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, he posted: “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

On Thursday (April 24) during a bilateral meeting with with Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre in the Oval Office, Trump had to take questions from reporters on how the US would react if Russia remained aggressive.

During the meeting, the businessman was asked whether he would consider further sanctions against Moscow if a peace deal was not struck soon.

He said: “I’d rather answer that question in a week. I want to see if we can have a deal.”

Another reporter then demanded to know why the US wasn’t putting more pressure on Russia already and what kind of pressure it could apply.

He then seemingly hit back: “I’m putting a lot of pressure. You don’t know what pressure I’m putting. They’re dealing. You have no idea what pressure I’m putting on Russia.

“We’re putting a lot of pressure and Russia knows that and some people who are close to it know or he wouldn’t be talking right now.

“The Prime Minister understands that better than anybody, he wouldn’t be talking, he is talking and we are putting a lot of pressure and we think he wants to make a deal.

“We are going to find out very soon but it takes two to tango and you have to have Ukraine want to make a deal too and they are being hit very hard and I do believe they do want to make a deal.”

However, while an official peace deal hasn’t been confirmed, the White House reportedly proposed a deal during discussions in London on Wednesday (April 23).

On the same day, Trump took to Truth Social to seemingly vent about Zelenskyy, writing (via Sky News): “We are very close to a deal, but the man with ‘no cards to play’ should now, finally, GET IT DONE.”

Donald Trump has recently made it clear that he isn’t happy with Vladimir Putin and Russia has gone on to launch a major attack regardless.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump warned that Russia could face further sanction if the war in Ukraine isn’t resolved.

During a meeting with his cabinet at the White House on Tuesday (July 8), Trump said Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin was ‘killing a lot of people’ in reference to Ukrainian forces.

He also questioned Putin’s determination into having a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

He said: “We get a lot of b******t thrown at us by Putin. He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”

Earlier this year in May, Ukrainian and Russian officials met for talks in Turkey but neither side has been able to agree on a temporary truce or a longstanding ceasefire.

Despite this warning from Trump about sanctions, the Ukrainian capital has been hit overnight by 10-hour-long Russian missile and drone strikes.

Lutsk and Ternopil, situated in the west of Ukraine, were some of the heaviest-hit targets. The strike has also caused a stir amongst NATO member, Poland, who share a boarder with the west of Ukraine.

A statement from Warsaw’s armed forces command said: “In connection with the attack by the Russian Federation’s air forces carrying out strikes on objects located in the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation has begun operating in Polish airspace.”

This brutal attack on Ukraine also comes after Russia addressed reports that Trump had previously warned against an invasion of Ukraine before he returned to the White House for a second term.

According to a CNN report, during fundraisers while speaking to donors, Trump spoke of a conversation he allegedly had with the Russian leader.

This was caught in a recording where Trump reportedly said: “With Putin I said, ‘If you go into Ukraine, I’m going to bomb the sh*t out of Moscow. I’m telling you I have no choice’.

“And then [Putin] goes, like, ‘I don’t believe you.’ But he believed me 10%.”

However, it is not clear when and in which format these alleged conversations took place with the leaders.

Russia dismissed the claims reportedly from Trump that he said this to Putin.

The spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said: “The fact is that there were no telephone conversations then.

“After all, we are talking, as far as I understand, about the period when Trump was not yet the president of the United States.”

Four US soldiers have reportedly vanished after a training exercise in Lithuania

Donald Trump is facing some backlash after giving a bizarre response in regards to the missing US Army soldiers.

The soldiers from the 1st Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division, as well as their M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle, reportedly vanished as of Tuesday (March 25) after a tactical training exercise in Pabradė, near the border of Belarus in Lithuania.

A widespread manhunt was launched with hundreds of personnel from the US Army and Lithuanian Armed Forces to try to find them.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte suggested on Wednesday (March 26) that the four soldiers had died, with speculation that they had drowned when their armored vehicle got into tough terrain, reports NY Post.

“Whilst I was speaking the news came out about four American soldiers who were killed in an incident in Lithuania. This is still early news so we do not know the details,” Rutte told reporters while in Warsaw, Poland. “This is really terrible news and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones.”

However, NATO has since clarified that the soldiers are not confirmed to be dead.

NATO clarified in a statement on Twitter that the search ‘is ongoing’ and apologized for any ‘any confusion’ made by the chief civil servant.

“We regret any confusion about remarks @SecGenNATO delivered on this today. He was referring to emerging news reports & was not confirming the fate of the missing, which is still unknown.”

And now, when asked by reporters if he had been briefed about the missing soldiers, President Trump claimed he knew nothing about it.

He replied: “No, I haven’t.”

The POTUS’ blunt reply has since sparked outrage from residents across the US and his critics, with many taking to social media to slam his response as ‘appalling.’

Commenting on Trump’s apparent indifference about the question, another wrote on Twitter: “Didn’t even seem a bit concerned! Bro just shrugged it off for the next question right away.”

A second wrote: “And not have the decency to at least fake giving a damn?”

“Because he’s not the President,” another said. “Putin and Elon are running the show.”

A fourth chimed: “If Trump doesn’t care enough about American soldiers to know if they are dead or alive, why is he the commander-in-chief? Imagine how appalled Republicans would be if Biden gave the same inept answer!”

CNN political commentator, Alyssa Farah Griffin, also wrote: “How has [Secretary of Defense] Hegseth not briefed POTUS on the missing US soldiers in Lithuania? This has been in the public domain for 8+ hours.”

The soldiers’ Hercules was found ‘submerged in a body of water’ of around 15 feet deep near the training area (prompting the speculation of drowning), Lithuanian Defence Minister Dovilė Šakalienė confirmed, which has been the focus of the search.

The boggy terrain has since been drained and pumped which the minister said is showing some ‘positive signs.’

As it stands, there is ‘no guarantee’ that soldiers were on board the vehicle when it entered the water, he continued, and stated there is ‘no evidence or information confirming any casualties.’

The US has been in the Baltic region since 2014 in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Crimea with Lithuania welcoming hundreds of US troops on a rotational basis before establishing the military camp in Pabrade in August 2021, reports CNN.

Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are all also NATO members and have a somewhat rocky relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, an ally of Belarus, since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1990.

Relations have soured further what with Lithuanian president, Gitanas Nausėda, supporting Ukraine against its Russian invaders in 2022.
